TOPIC:    “Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood: New Insights into an Underdiagnosed Disorder”

OBJECTIVE:            
1. Present the salient features of alternating hemiplegia of childhood (AHC) to increase the index of suspicion and allow clinician to recognize the disorder as early as possible.  
2. Discuss the potential genetic and underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms.
3. Review currently available therapies.
4. Analyze recent data about the relationship of AHC to epilepsy and the insights about the natural history of the disorder.
