Dispose of your e-waste at WSU

Wayne State students, faculty, staff and all persons who live, work, or play in the city of Detroit are invited to take advantage of a special opportunity to get rid of their old and unwanted electronic items, or (e-waste), in a responsible manner. It is a chance to dispose of old computers, monitors and other associated equipment, while ensuring that they are disposed of properly. This opportunity is free, and personal items are welcome. However, no refrigeration units or major appliances can be accepted. See below for a partial list of items that will be accepted.
Where: Wayne State University's Parking Lot 11, located north of the campus on Cass between Antoinette and York in Detroit.
Types of equipment to be recycled: most household electronic items, but not refrigeration units, major appliances or items containing oil or Freon.
Acceptable items list: • Central processing units (towers or laptops) • Computer monitors • Printers • Keyboards and mice • Computer speakers • Switches and servers • Routers and hubs • Televisions and stereos (and similar audio devices) • Xerographic and other copiers • Facsimile (fax) machines • Personal data assistants (PDAs) • Cellular telephones and pagers • Desk phones and other telecom equipment • Cameras • Wire and cables
Regarding data security: all data holding or related equipment will be shredded.
The WSU Office of Environmental Health and Safety and the Purchasing Department will have trucks on hand to collect the e-waste. There will be signage directing people and teams of Wayne State volunteers to remove items from vehicles.
