Create your first Windows 8 game and enter for a chance to win fabulous cash prizes totaling $500!  Build your resume with Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012 experience.  Publish your game in the new Windows Store, and become rich and famous.  Above all, at this event you will learn a simple way to build amazing games.

Join us to take a first look at Windows 8 – the newest version of Windows completely reimagined from the ground up. Next, we will take a look at Scirra’s Construct 2 – a game creator for Windows which empowers coders AND non-coders to create amazing and addictive games. We will walk you through creating a game using Scirra’s Construct 2.  Then, we will unleash you to create amazing games and submit them to the Windows Store!

Time Topic
9-9:15am Welcome and Logistics
9:15-10am Introduction to Windows 8
10am-11am Introduction to Scirra's Construct 2
11am-4pm Download assets, lunch and game development
3-4:30pm Windows Store submission, as people complete their games

The event will be held from 9am-4:30pm at:

Danto Technical Center Auditorium
College of Engineering
Wayne State University
Room 1507, Engineering Building
5050 Anthony Wayne Drive
Detroit, MI 48202

Attendees should bring a machine with the following installed:

System requirements for Construct 2: http://www.scirra.com/manual/6/system-requirements

Operating system: Windows XP Service Pack 3 or newer, but Windows 8 is highly recommended.*  Students can obtain Windows 8 in one of 3 ways, described in Step 1 at https://www.dreamspark.com/Student/Windows-8-App-Development.aspx:

Scirra’s Construct 2: http://www.scirra.com/construct2/releases (Use release r105 or later.)

Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows 8, if you have a Windows 8 machine

NOTE: It is strongly encouraged that students use Windows 8!  This will be the easiest experience, as they can create games, compile them, and test them all on their own machine.  If you use a Windows OS less than Windows 8, you can create your games on that machine, but then will have to use a shared set of Windows 8 resources to compile and test them as Windows 8 applications.

We look forward to seeing you there!
