Topics to be discussed: Immigration, Immigration enforcement, challenges in a post-9/11 world, police brutality, racial profiling, white flight and other demographic changes, critical race and social theory.
Abstract: This symposium explores issues surrounding race relations in Detroit and surrounding suburbs, including racial profiling in law enforcement, the so-called war on terror, and the challenges of immigrant communities. This symposium will explore the deep structural roots of the problems against the backdrop of the myth of post racialism in the wake of President Obama's historic reelection.
