Still Pulling - gallery lectures

Friday, May 9, 2008 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM - Recurring Daily
The Elaine L. Jacob Gallery hosts three days of gallery talks in conjunction with the exhibit "Still Pulling: Traditional Printmaking in the Digital Age" by artist Denes Galfi on May 8th and 9th at 3pm, and by Galfi and exhibit curator Pamela DeLaura on May 10th at 3pm. These events are free and open to the public. Still Pulling features hand-pulled prints by 20 artists from across the United States and Canada. Each artist is represented in this exhibition by two to four prints.

The artists selected by DeLaura for this exhibition utilize traditional print processes and share an aesthetic of abstraction that references nature. Their hand-pulled prints affirm traditional printmaking as a thriving contemporary art practice producing rich and compelling works.

Denes Galfi, adjunct instructor, born in Yugoslavia and of Hungarian nationality, came to the US in 1960. He became manager of the College for Creative Studies printmaking facility in 1970 and became section chair in 1973. In 2003 Galfi left CCS to become an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University, undertaking the development of a strong printmaking facility and program for the visual arts education for WSU's College of Education.

Still Pulling is presented in the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery, March 21 through May 16, 2008.
