WC Safe, in partnership with Detroit area service providers, will host the "Moving Beyond Survival" series to promote awareness and support for sexual assault survivors. Each lecture will highlight the impact of sexual violence in the lives of survivors. Bring your lunch and join us for the "Secondary Trauma" lecture. Secondary traumatic stress is a natural reaction among service providers who support clients who experience a traumatic event. Often, helping professionals bear witness to traumatic events without taking time out to care for themselves. Dr. Debra Patterson of Wayne State University will review the factors that may increase one's risks of experiencing secondary trauma and strategies to alleviate secondary trauma.
