The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to host the next Sustainability@Wayne Seminar on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the Welcome Center Auditorium, 42 W. Warren, Detroit, MI. Mark A. Barteau, Director, University of Michigan Energy Institute and the inaugural DTE Energy Professor Advanced Energy Research will discuss: "Perspectives on Energy."
Energy - clean, sustainable, affordable and environmentally responsible - is the grand challenge of our time. As we consider the science, technology and policy needs for the creation of a sustainable energy future, it is important to focus on solutions that are scalable to levels that can make a measurable difference in energy supply, use, environmental impact, etc. This talk will provide perspectives on the global scale of our energy challenges, while looking at some of the underlying variations with time and place. It will also condsider the need for "cross-over" of resources, particularly renewable resources, from electricity generation to meeting our needs for transportation in realistic ways.
A small reception will follow in the Welcome Center Auditorium from 3:30-4:00 p.m.
