DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to a special celebration; the laun
 ch of the Jewish Studies Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Scienc
 es at Wayne State University. President Jay Noren and Sara R. Horowitz, Di
 rector of the Centre for Jewish Studies at York University and President o
 f the Association for Jewish Studies, will deliver the remarks during the 
 program which starts at 6:00 p.m. in rooms BC.For many decades, Jewish lif
 e and activity has been a highly visible part of campus life. Since its fo
 unding in 1988, the Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies introduced the u
 niversity and the community to exciting and innovative research and schola
 rship in Jewish Studies and has contributed to the cultural life of our ca
 mpus and the Detroit metropolitan area through the performance of Jewish a
 rt, music, theatre and dance. In turn, Wayne State&#39;s Hillel has a long
  and honored history of serving Jewish students on campus. Finally, the Wa
 yne State University Press has become internationally renowned for its out
 standing publications in the field of Judaica.Wayne State University now s
 eeks to build upon these accomplishments by establishing a Minor in Jewish
  Studies. Interdisciplinary in structure and innovative in its approach, t
 he Minor in Jewish Studies&nbsp;will engage students and faculty who are i
 nterested in learning about the history, culture and languages of Jewish c
 ommunities. In a variety of courses in history, literature, philosophy, po
 litical science, and the Hebrew language, students at Wayne State Universi
 ty will have an opportunity to learn how Jewish thought has influenced the
  modern world and how it has been influenced in turn by the societies and 
 cultures in which Jews have lived over the past four thousand years.
