Wayne State University School of Medicine is hosting our Golden Gala on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. This black-tie event will bring together business, community and political leaders with physicians and educators. Monies raised will support the Wayne State University School of Medicine, including medical school scholarships and student related activities. We are pleased to announce that Huel Perkins, with Fox 2 News will be the Master of Ceremonies.
The School of Medicine also uses this evening to honor leaders in the field of medicine with the presentations of the Trailblazer, Ambassador and Distinguished Service Awards. The Ambassador Award honors individuals and corporations who, through acts and deeds, epitomize the spirit of Wayne State University and the School of Medicine. Those honored represent world-class vision; leadership; and progress shown through outstanding service, commitment to our teaching and research missions, and dedication to the city and the community. The 2012 Ambassador Award winner is Dr. Ananda Prasad. The Trailblazer Award celebrates the rich tradition of Wayne State University School of Medicine innovators; the Trailblazer Award recognizes alumni and faculty who, through their perseverance and dedication, have forged paths through previously unexplored territory to become pioneers in their field of medicine and medical research. The 2012 Trailblazer Award winner is Dr. Robert Lisak. The Distinguished Service Award is given to physicians, basic researchers, non-medically related individuals or alumni who have made major contributions to humanitarian causes or through community participation. The 2012 Distinguished Service Award winner is Dr. Sanford Cohen.
The theme of this black-tie event is “A Salute to Detroit: When Old Meets New” and includes a reception, plated dinner and afterglow components. During dinner, there will be short video presentations, along with the award ceremony. Live music will also be enjoyed during the event. Prices are $225 for one ticket, $200 each for two or more tickets.

Complimentary valet is available at the Marriott Hotel Motor Port located on Renaissance Drive West. Self-Parking for a fee is also available at the Beaubien Place Garage (accessible from Beaubien Street or St. Antoine) for $3/hour.
