The keynote speaker is Nathan Garrett, a nationally renowned author and speaker and a trailblazer in the field of public accounting. Despite an outstanding academic and military record, Garrett faced many challenges while trying to break into the accounting industry in the 1950s. He ultimately secured a position in the firm of Richard H. Austin, the first African American in Michigan to earn the CPA designation. Under Austin’s tutelage, Garrett eventually became the fifth African American CPA in the state of Michigan. He later moved back to his hometown of Durham, North Carolina, where he earned a law degree and had a long and illustrious career as a CPA and community leader.

This event is open to all students, alumni and friends of the School of Business Administration. The program begins with professional development workshops and concludes with a keynote lecture and luncheon. Registration is complimentary to all who attend. However, there are a limited number of spaces available.
