Did you know that Martin Luther King, Jr. first delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech in Detroit? Yup, it’s true, and the Tour de Troit has decided to host a bike ride with the hopes of honoring his legacy and the civil rights movement here that was so important nationally.

On January 16, 2017 we invite you to join TdT for its 5th annual celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. at a cycling event in the city of Detroit.

This is a free ride, but registration is required. Register here or day-of at Wayne State's McGregor Memorial Conference Center between 9-9:30AM. Families are encouraged. Helmets are required. The ride will take off at 10 a.m. After the ride, hot chocolate is being kindly provided by Wayne State University.

Our new route this year is approximately 10 miles in length and will feature several historical sites relevant to Dr. King and other local activists that were integral to the March and the impact of the “I Have a Dream” speech delivered at Cobo Arena afterward.

Before the ride start, Todd Scott, Tour de Troit board member and Director of the Detroit Greenways Coalition will have a few words in honor of the passing of Ron Scott, a major civil rights advocate and bicycle advocate who participated in the MLK march.

The ride will begin and end at McGregor Memorial Conference Center on the campus of Wayne State University. Parking is available on-street (free on the holiday) and at structures PS#2 (Lodge Service Drive S. of Kirby), PS#8 (Forest between Woodward and Cass Ave.) surface lots #32 (at the Law School) and #31 (behind the Faculty Administration Building). Regular rates will apply. Parking information and Campus map can be found here.
