Join the Wayne State University Center for Peace and Conflict Studies and the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights for a panel discussion moderated by the Center's Community Dispute Resolution Specialist, Barbara L. Jones.

In the recent U.S. election season the notion or characterization of "white supremacy" has risen to the fore in public discussion. Some have noted that the concept has characterized this republic from its very founding, while others have openly advocated for and against it. Yet there may be many useful distinctions worth discussing to promote greater understanding of these disturbing developments and the general racialization of American politics. "White supremacists;" "White Nationalism;" "White Privilege;" and "White Decline" are among the elements that can be associated with the concept and its political fallout, and yet these aspects may carry quite different meanings. Even the basic definition of "whiteness" bears examination.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Fred Pearson, Professor of Political Science, Director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies
  • Dr. Ron Brown, Associate Professor, American Government and Politics Dept. of Political Science
