For the past three years incoming Wayne Law students have given back to the area community through a day of service at the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative. This year we are opening up the service day to all Wayne State Students, faculty, and staff!

This The Michigan Urban Farming Initiative (MUFI) is based in Detroit's North End community about a mile from the Law School. Their mission is to use urban agriculture as a platform to promote education, sustainability, and community in an effort to empower urban communities, solve many social problems facing Detroit, and potentially develop a broader model for redevelopment for other urban communities.

The Michigan Urban Farming Initiative site is located at 7432 Brush St. Detroit, MI 48202. Free street parking is available. Please note that lunch is not provided so please plan on eating before you arrive. While we will have snacks and water available at the site, you are also encouraged to bring a full water bottle. Bug spray is also recommended. Please wear comfortable clothes that you are prepared to get dirty. MUFI representatives will greet us as we arrive, give us an overview of their organization and then put us to work. Tasks will range from harvesting and planting, to construction and demolition; based on your willingness and skill. You are welcome to stay as short or as long as you would like, but we encourage at least 2 hours of work.

MUFI is grateful that our Wayne Law family is able to assist their organization each year and give back to the community.
