A Day in the Life of an Amazonian Software Engineer, Working with Big Data

Abstract:

Abstract: Ever wonder what the day to day work looks like for a Big Data Engineer at Amazon? What kinds of problems do we have to solve at Amazon scale? How do we make key AWS and open source technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Elastic MapReduce (EMR), etc. work for us? Come listen to a Principal Software Engineer from one of the Data Analytics teams at Amazon’s Detroit office talk about how they build tools to work with Big Data at Earth’s Most Customer Centric Company.

Bio:

Fletcher Liverance is a Principal Software Engineer at Amazon’s Detroit office. He is responsible for building and maintaining an internal Big Data Analytics platform that processes hundreds of millions of records per second, enabling engineers at Amazon to execute complex batch, real-time and machine learning workflows on thousands of nodes over petabytes of data daily.
