A DAY WITH TEEPA SNOW REGISTRATION

As one of America’s leading educators on dementia, Teepa Snow’s philosophy is rher education, work experience, available medical researst hand caregiving interactions. Working as a Registered Occupational Therapist for over 30 years her wealth of experience has led her to develop Positive Approach® to Care techniques and training models that now are used by families and professionals working or living with dementia or other brain changes throughout the world.

Positive and meaningful insteractions start with you

At our Sixth Annual Fall Conference, Teepa will lead three sessions that will explore how to promote positive and meaningful interactions with people living with dementia by adapting the way we typically communicate:

• Managing Behavior: Start with Yourself will help care providers manage their own behaviors to change patterns rather than focusing trying the get the person with dementia to “behave themselves.”

• Dealing with Distress in Those Around You will help attendees rectively to the challenges and frustrations dementia may bring for all involved in care. The goal of the session is to provide insights and skills that can reduce the stress and promote more positive interactions by using active listening, empathy and validation rather than information, defensiveness, explanations and reality orientation.

• Programming to Fill the Day with Meaning: What You Choose to do Makerence will help learners develop skills to implement activities that take into account a person living with dementia’s level of cognitive ability and interests, resulting in a daily routine that provides a balance of work, rest, self-care and leisure activities.
