AGSO’s Graduate Student Conference
Wayne State University, Detroit, MI

March 3rd, 2018

The Anthropology Graduate Student Organization (AGSO) at Wayne State University invites students to submit papers to its annual Transformations Graduate Student Conference. This year’s theme, Interdisciplinary Approaches to Thinking Anthropologically, aims to highlight student work that applies collaborative approaches for addressing complex questions about humanity.

Transformations will be held at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI on March 3rd, 2018.  Wayne State’s anthropology program offers students comprehensive training through a four-field approach and cross-disciplinary opportunities in a dynamic urban setting. It is from this perspective that we encourage submissions that equally demonstrate integrative ways of applying anthropological knowledge across the subfields or with other disciplines.

The conference is not strictly limited to anthropology students; we welcome contributions originating from any discipline that utilize anthropological thought or methods to inform their approach. Students at the graduate and undergraduate level are invited to share work that engages people, theory, and practice in a myriad of ways. The theme, Interdisciplinary Approaches to Thinking Anthropologically, provides an opportunity for scholars to reflect on how integrative perspectives can strengthen anthropological research, provide richer engagement with the communities in which we work, and contribute to larger conversations within the social sciences more broadly.

The Deadline for Abstract Submissions is January 15, 2018.  Submissions can be made through our Google Form ( or by email at  Submissions by email should be in PDF format, 250 words or less, and include a separate page with paper title, author's name, affiliation, and contact information.

The event is free and attendance is open to the public. Further event details will be available soon. Please direct any questions to
