Empathy and perspective-taking are essential skills if you want to serve as a vital member of a team, and engage effective dialogue with supervisors and subordinates, including in the classroom. These skills can also enhance one's quality of life. In this workshop, attendees will learn what empathy is (and what it is not), learn strategies to engage in empathic and perspective-taking behaviors, and engage in role playing tasks to put their newfound skills to use.

Session leader: Annmarie Cano, Ph.D., Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Professor of Psychology, CLAS

After attending this GPPD, attendees will be able to:

  • Distinguish between empathy and perspective-taking.
  • Identify strategies to engage in empathic and perspective-taking behaviors.
  • Engage in empathy and perspective-taking in daily life.
