Please join the WSU Yamasaki Legacy Group celebrate the 60th birthday of the McGregor Memorial Conference Center! The iconic masterwork of Minuro Yamasaki opened on May 18, 1958 - and continues to serve Wayne State University and the community. We will be celebrating with birthday cake and refreshments, and the WSU Bookstore will be on-hand with books celebrating Yamasaki and mid-century architecture.

The birthday celebration is preceeded by a lecture by Richard B. Hess at 4:30pm: "McGregor Reflecting Pool and Sculpture Gardens - Restoring a Minuro Yamasaki Masterwork."

The lecture by Mr. Hess will examine:

• The Challenge of Preserving Innovation and Experience

• Yamasaki’s Search for Surprise, Serenity, and Delight

• Reconstruction of the Reflecting Pool

• Restoration of the Sculpture Islands & the Return of Tranquility

Richard B. Hess is a Senior Associate with Quinn Evans Architects, responsible for managing QEA’s Detroit office and Urban Revitalization work.
