The WSU Math Corps is a tuition free combined academic enrichment and mentoring program that brings middle and high school students together, with college students and mathematicians to share in the teaching and learning of mathematics in a university setting. Based on the idea of creating a self-perpetuation corps, students matriculate through the program and return as mentors and tutors, passing their knowledge and values on to younger students, who in turn do the same. The Math Corps program strives to make a difference and change students' lives guided by a very simple but unwavering belief that all children have a unique and special greatness within them, and that through hard work and a commitment to excellence, and with the support of a caring community, this greatness can be realized.

To be eligible for the Math Corps program student must currently be in the 6th -11th grades and either: 1) enrolled in a public school in the cities of Detroit, Hamtramck, or Highland Park, or 2) a resident of Detroit, Hamtramck, or Highland Park, also enrolled in a public school.
