Title: Noncommutative discriminants

Abstract: The notion of discriminant plays an important role in number theory and algebraic geometry. In noncommutative algebra, discriminant is a key invariant which is used to study the representation theory of the algebra, the automorphism and isomorphism problem, and the Zariski cancellation problem. However, it is difficult to compute in concrete situations. In this talk, we will describe a general method for computing noncommutative discriminants which relates them to representation theory and Poisson geometry. As an application we will provide explicit formulas for the discriminants of the algebra of quantum square matrices. If time permits, we will also discuss this for the case of quantum groups. This is joint work with Kurt Trampel and Milen Yakimov.
