First hour includes a discussion of the required Qualifying and Prospectus Exams, led by a panel of graduate students in various stages of the process. The panel will address best practices for preparing, strategies for collaborating with your committee, and ideas for making your QE/PE more productive for the dissertation.

Our second hour is informal and "faculty free." Participants will break out into small groups based on their area of interest. These groups will talk about discipline-specific questions, approaches, and expectations for each exam. Topics may include:

- formulating QE lists
- selecting texts
- choosing & answering written questions
- emphasizing talking points during the oral exam
- formatting the PE
- incorporating feedback from your committee
