Celebrate David Lowrie’s retirement alongside his family, friends, colleagues, and students. Join them as they gather Friday, January 18th at 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on the first floor of Old Main by the Geology, Mineral Museum and Planetarium for light refreshments, a showcase of memories, and mingling. The museum will be open so guests can see Lowrie’s work on display and reminisce with Lowrie himself.

Throughout his fifty-four year career at Wayne State University’s Department of Geology, Lowrie taught hundreds of students and helped them excavate, discover, and analyze minerals from across the region and beyond. Curator of Wayne State University’s mineral collection since earning his Bachelors of Science in Geology from the University in 1964, Lowrie was instrumental in opening the Geology, Mineral Museum in the basement of Old Main in 2017. The David J. Lowrie Endowed Scholarship Fund supports students’ geological field experience and research and will continue to do so as long as the University exists.
