The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to host the next Water@Wayne seminar on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 2:30 p.m to 4:00 p.m. in the Bernath Auditorium located in the David Adamany Undergraduate Library. The seminar is free and open to the public; registration is requested.

The Water@Wayne Seminar Series presents "US Forest Service Urban Connections" with Lisa Perez, Program Specialist, US Forest Service. Lisa Perez serves as a program specialist with the US Forest Service, Eastern Region.  Working as Detroit Urban Connections Coordinator since 2009, she works with partners to  create opportunities to connect urban residents with nature, both in their backyards, neighborhood parks and National Forests.  Lisa is a graduate of Willamette University, Indiana University, school of environmental and public affairs, and served for three years with the US Peace Corps in Panama.

The US Forest Service has traditionally done it’s work on and nearby National Forest managed land in rural areas.  Since 2000 more investment has been made in cities and metropolitan areas, building awareness and understanding of the role of trees and natural areas in the urban ecosystem.  Several forest service initiatives have been created to accomplish this work in the Eastern part of the US, Including Urban Forest Field Stations, and the Eastern Region’s Urban Connections Program.  This program will share more about these efforts and delve into some of the work done in the Detroit area over the last 15 years.

A short reception will immediately follow the seminar.
