The University's Division of Alumni Affairs, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Pre-Med and Health Science Center, and the Sociology for Pre-Meds Learning Community have partnered to present:

Sociocultural Factors and their Impact on Health and Healthcare: A Wayne State College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Alumni Physician's Panel

Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Wayne State Student Center Hilberry Rooms.

Ask four MDs, all of them Wayne State alumni, anything. As they share their experiences and advice, you’ll hear honest answers about how they encounter factors such as race, religion, class, immigration status, and gender in their work. One panelist’s team takes to the streets of Detroit treating an unreached and service-resistant homeless population, one uses his mathematical mind as an occupational medicine specialist in Grand Rapids, one uses his Biological Sciences background treating Metro Detroit patients, and another applies her biochemistry background to internal medicine and pediatrics in Detroit. As undergraduates, they majored in distinctly different disciplines that helped them into medical school and developed perspectives that paved their approaches to delivering medical care. They look forward to meeting you and helping you do the same.
