The Humanities Center is proud to present as a part of its Brown Bag Series, a talk persented by M.L. Liebler, Senior Lecturer, from the English department.

Abstract:

The presentation will consists of an introduction to this in-depth poetry anthology, RESPECT: An Anthology of Poems on Detroit Music edited by M.L. Liebler & Jim Daniels, is set for a Fall 2019 release from the Michigan State University Press. The book includes poems by many acclaimed and well known poets like Philip Levine, Rita Dove, June Jordan, Toi Derricotte, Robert Hayden, Lawrence Joseph, Melba Joyce Boyd, Bill Harris, Jack White with some elect lyrics by Fats Domino, Paul Simon, Robbie Robertson, Eminem, Gordon Lightfoot and many many others. This anthology is the first book to compile and pay homage to the great music of Detroit from Jazz to Blues to Motown to Rock and Hip Hop. This program will feature live readings by Mark James Andrews, Robin Eichele, Chris Tysh, Dawn McDuffie, Thomas Trimble, Writer L. Bush, Bill Harris and music by Stewart Francke.

These talks are free and open to the public! We also provide free coffee, tea, and cake!
