Enhance awareness of the ethical principles that infuse the professional mandates to both assess and manage pain to relieve suffering and enhance safety of patients, prescribers and the public.

Review definitions and tools which inform clinical assessment and treatment plans responsive to substance use disorders, chronic pain and pain in serious illness.

Challenge the ethical solution to the “opioid crises” which rests in the abandoning of patients or an entire class of medications.

Advocate a multidimensional treatment approach to pain that informs a clinical response to patients and families and maximizes safety of patients, family, medical practitioners and the public.
