Using Medicaid claims for children born in Michigan 2013-2015, we analyze use of emergency room and office visits in Flint compared to other cities across the state. We found a 50% increase in lead tests in Flint after the contamination became known; but as avoidable emergency room visits decreased by 6.9%, office visits increased by 10.9%. We are able to link changing use of emergency room and office care to lead testing.
