This month's speaker is Professor of Law, Peter J. Hammer.

Peter J. Hammer is the A. Alfred Taubman Professor of Law and the Director of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at Wayne State University Law School. Professor Hammer has become a leading voice on the economic and social issues impacting the City of Detroit. His work in the Keith Center addresses structural racism and building effective multi-racial coalitions in Detroit.  The Keith Center is dedicated to promoting the educational, economic and political empowerment of under-represented communities in urban areas and to ensuring that the phrase "equal justice under law" applies to all members of society.

In addition, Professor Hammer has over twenty-five years doing work in Cambodia addressing human rights and development, including twelve years working with monks practicing engaged Buddhism.  His scholarly work also focuses on anti-LGBT discrimination in the academy; he has published scholarship ranging from health policy to biographies of Judge Damon J. Keith and Judge George W. Crockett Jr.
