Join Dr. Jerry Dunifer, Emeritus Professor of Physics and Astronomy, for an interactive journey (Zoom video conference): In Search of the Northern Lights:  Alaska and The Yukon

In this presentation we will travel up North into regions where the Northern Lights are frequently seen, hoping we have the opportunity to see a good display.  Specifically, we will be visiting the state of Alaska and the Yukon Territory in Canada.  As we travel north, we will use a variety of transportation modes including bus, train, ferry boat, private car, small airplane, and even dog sled.  Along the way we’ll visit several interesting sites such as the Alaskan Inland Passageway, glaciers calving into the sea, a flight over Glacier Bay National Park, the route taken by prospectors during the Yukon Gold Rush of the 1890s, and many others.

Jerry Dunifer is a Professor Emeritus at Wayne State University. He was a member of the faculty in the Department of Physics & Astronomy for 35 years before retirement. Since retirement, one of Jerry’s hobbies has been visiting a number of the significant and historic astronomy observatories around the World. He has visited dozens of different sites, traveling as far as the geographic South Pole and the geographic North Pole and many places in between.
