Looking ahead to the upcoming Wayne State University activities planned throughout the week of Juneteenth, we seek to address issues that have plagued Detroit residents. As we celebrate Black freedom, we examine ways to achieve equality by identifying the various consequences of systemic racism, such as food insecurity. Health disparities, which the University actively fights, are direct effects of food insecurity and systemic inequality. Juneteenth is a unifying holiday; it forces us to take an honest look at where we are as a nation and what we can do to progress forward.
