Organic Chemistry Seminar - Jiayi Li (Nguyen Lab), Wayne State University
Fourth year talk: "Phenanthroline-Catalyzed Stereoselective Glycosylation: Scope and Mechanism"

Short abstract: Phenanthroline, a rigid and planar organic compound with two fused pyridine rings, mimics retaining glycosyltransferase enzymes to effectively catalyze glycosidic C-O bond formation with the net retention of the anomeric configuration. The phenanthroline catalysis provide a general platform for predictable and stereoselective formation of alpha-1,2-cis sugars under mild and operationally simple conditions.
