'Homeless in Detroit'
This event is in the past.
MedFlix: Movies in Medical Education and Street Medicine Detroit invite all students, faculty, staff and alumni to a screening of “Homeless in Detroit.”
The 2016 documentary dives deep into the personal lives of homeless individuals who are surviving on Detroit’s streets. This compassionate film lends insight on the challenges they face and the community who support them.
“Homeless In Detroit” shatters misconceptions about why people end up on the streets, and it’s a strong example of how the intersectionality between race, gender identity, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status can impact patients’ lives. The film is even more relevant now due to the challenges Detroit’s homeless population face during the pandemic, including evictions from apartments and encampments. You’ll gain familiarity with some of the community resources for your future homeless patients both during the movie and in the discussion afterwards.
