MedFlix & Physicians for Social Responsibility
All students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to a screening of
Erin Brockovich
In support of World Environmental Day, the student groups MedFlix and Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) are excited to present a screening of Erin Brockovich. This 2000 drama portrays the true story of a driven legal clerk investigating toxic ground water contamination and its effects on the health and welfare of a rural California town.
Nominated for five Academy Awards, Erin Brockovich demonstrates the real-world outcomes of corporate and medical neglect towards low-income communities. Erin’s story highlights the importance of impassioned advocacy in the fight for environmental justice and equitable social determinants of health. On a smaller scale, the film also explores the difficulties of balancing one’s personal and professional commitments when the well-being of others is at stake.
Following the film, participants will engage in a group discussion facilitated by MedFlix and PSR. This will be a safe and open forum for attendees to dive into the themes and dilemmas presented in the film. Snacks and beverages will be provided during the screening.
Full participation is required for Wayne Med students to qualify for 3 Clinical Service-Learning hours.
