The College of Engineering Summer Academy is held on the campus of Wayne State University. The program provides opportunities for K-12 students to help them explore the fields of engineering and computer science by teaching them skills that are necessary for those fields through project-based learning.

Weekly camps

  • July 18 - August 12, 2022
  • Mondays - Fridays
  • 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Extended Care: 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. 

Camp fee

  • Rising 1st-8th grade weekly engineering summer camps- $500
  • Rising 9th-12th grade C2 Pipeline summer camps- $40
  • Rising 10th-12th grade Warriors College Experience- $150 (includes housing, meals, supplies and field trips)

Scholarships

The Office of Community Engagement and K-12 Outreach partners with non-profit organizations that offer scholarships and financial assistance to students interested in attending the Summer Academy. 

Location

Students are welcomed to an in-person program held on the campus of Wayne State University. While supervised by program staff, students have the opportunity to experience a taste of collegiate life, attend classes in engineering and computer science labs and eat in dining halls.

Professional Staff Facilitated by experienced Wayne State University engineering faculty and staff. Engineering graduate and undergraduate students serve as peer mentors and instructors. All staff are background checked and receive training in child safety, first aid, and CPR.

Lunch

Students will enjoy lunch daily inside the university's Towers Café which may accommodate food allergies, vegetarian, and Halal.

Field trips

Field trips are planned weekly. Students will walk to and from field trip locations. Walking distance are less than a ½ mile from campus. Students are shuttled to further distances.

Swag

Each registered student receives one t-shirt. Students are expected to wear their t-shirts daily.

Demonstration day

There will be a weekly demonstration day on the last day of each session providing students an opportunity to present their finished project and receive a certificate.

Extended care

For an additional fee families will have an opportunity to sign their campers up for before/after care.
