This session will focus on the experiences of Dr. Jeremy L. Rickli (Industrial & Systems Engineering) and Dr. Yinlun Huang (Chemical Engineering and Materials Science) in obtaining funding for and operating the National Science Foundation funded Research Experience for Undergraduates Site: Summer Academy in Sustainable Manufacturing. This REU Site has provided 10 week summer research experiences in the field of sustainable manufacturing to fifty five undergraduate engineering students from across the United States for five summers with a sixth, and final, summer scheduled for 2023. Participants undertake their research experience on Wayne State's campus, and are assigned a faculty mentor from the College of Engineering. The REU Site first offered summer research programs from 2018 to 2020 and was renewed for three additional summer programs from 2021 to 2023.
