The Contest

In its ninth year, NPR Music offers unsigned artists’ the opportunity to become the national 2023 Grand Prize Tiny Desk winner.  Musicians submit videotapes of their original songs, performed at a desk, between February 7 and March 13.  The 2023 national winner receives a NPR’s Tiny Desk performance and place in the national concert tour.  The national winner is announced in May.

The Regional Contest Extension

WDET, Detroit’s NPR station and a longtime advocate for local talent and music across genres, extends the national contest into a local competition by allowing WDET listeners to vote for their local favorites in June and July.  Winners of the fan favorite voting will be featured at a live August concert in Detroit’s New Center Park.
