La Academia del Pueblo seeks to establish connections between the academy, engaged citizens, and urban communities. This year, the conference framework draws upon contemporary abolitionist discourse examining notions of violence ranging from its monstrous interpersonal intimacies to its structural execution, including but not limited to, censorship, ecocide, health, gender, economic and racial inequalities, identity erasure and the undermining of democratic systems, including through technological means.

Keynote Speaker:
Yomaira C. Figueroa-Vasquez, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Global Afrodiaspora Studies
Department of English, Michigan State University
