In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Wayne State University School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education in collaboration with Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit and the WSU Commission on the Status of Women is proud to host ASIST, a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first-aid for free to the Detroit community.

ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—ASIST can be learned and used by anyone.

After the training participants will be able to:

  • Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
  • Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
  • Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
  • Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
  • Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care

CE's: Attendees can obtain 12 FREE social work CE's upon completion of the training, and passing of the post-training quiz. Attendees are required to attend both sessions in full. Attendees will recieve their digital CE certificate via email in 7 - 10 business after the event.

Cost: Free to attend

All attendees must RSVP by May 8, 2023 for this training. Seating is limited.
