The Wayne State University School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education in collaboration with Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit and Nature's Playhouse is proud to host "safeTALK: suicide alertness for everyone", a training for suicide alertness for free to the Detroit community.

safeTALK helps participants recognize a person with thoughts of suicide and connect them with resources who can help them in choosing to live. Participants don’t need any formal preparation to attend the training—anyone age 15 or older who wants to make a difference can learn the safeTALK steps.

safeTALK helps participants become alert to suicide. Suicide-alert people are better prepared to connect
persons with thoughts of suicide with life-affirming help. Over the course of their training, safeTALK participants will learn to:

  • Notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts may be present,
  • Recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked,
  • Move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, and avoid suicide,
  • Apply the TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, KeepSafe, and
  • Know community resources and how to connect someone with thoughts of suicide to them for further suicide-safer help.

This training is open to all and free. Pre-registration is required. Seating is limited.

CE's: Attendees can obtain 3.5 FREE social work CE's upon completion of the training, and passing of the post-training quiz. Attendees are required to attend the session in full. Attendees will receive their digital CE certificate via email in 7 - 10 business after the event.

This training is being offered on two different days. Please select only one session to attend. The additional day for this training is: June 22, 2023 from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm EST in the WSU School of Social Work #0023.
