Description:
This seminar will focus on people with cerebral palsy who may have difficulty
safely and efficiently chewing or swallowing food, liquids, or pills. Swallowing
issues can lead to dehydration, malnutrition, or infection. Treatment strategies
will be discussed. Additional emphasis will be on understanding the basics
of safe chewing and swallowing. Learning about diet modifications for safe,
efficient swallowing and reviewing current treatment strategies for swallowing
problems for people with cerebral palsy. We will review the most common
patient complaints and medical issues addressed in the Adult Cerebral Palsy
Clinic at the University of Michigan’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation clinic.
