Jump Start
Jump Start is, as the title suggests, an opportunity for new, first-year students, to get a jump start on the Fall semester. Each day, students will experience workshops offering an introduction to fundamental collegiate music courses, an overview of the entire music curriculum, and the opportunity to learn more about the University and the Department of Music, right alongside their peers! Participants will build fluency and confidence in the skills that form the foundation of the undergraduate music degree. Enrollment is limited to approximately 30 students.

The Jump Start program was very helpful in easing me into the material taught in the first semester, as I had no prior theory or ear training experience. It was very helpful to get an idea of what we would be learning. One of the specific things that was very helpful was having us sing in front of each other to practice ear training exercises. As I was extremely shy, practicing this in a smaller group of people was very helpful in preparing for the real class. Honestly, I felt that everything taught during the program was useful in preparing me for classes at Wayne. If anything, I wish the days would have been a little longer in order to cover more content. Other than that, Jump Start was extremely beneficial to my experience at Wayne State!
