The Wayne State University School of Social Work invites faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members to join us for Taking an Intersectional Approach to Care - Implicit Bias in the Healthcare System presented by national prevention educator, advocate, and eleven24 founder Tonjie Reese, MAEd.

Professionals in social work and other helping professions are not exempt from implicit bias. When we aren’t intentional about addressing our biases, the very people we are helping are impacted at the personal, community, and systemic level. By addressing implicit bias, and being willing to hold ourselves and others accountable, we can expand our reach and create healthier communities. During this workshop, we will discuss implicit bias, identify ways to address accountability, and provide tips for including intersectional practices in our work.

Tonjie Reese founded eleven24 with the goal of preventing interpersonal violence by providing youth education and capacity building for adults. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science from Grand Valley State University, and a Masters of Art in Education, Leadership, and Change from Antioch University in Los Angeles.

This training will fulfill the state of Michigan’s requirements for continuing education in implicit bias.
