The Wayne State University School of Social Work invites faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members to join us for Compassion fatigue and developing professional resiliency among mental health professionals presented by Child & Adolescent Psychiatry expert Dr. Tehmina Shakir M.D.

Professionals in the field of helping and caregiving occupations and public safety have chosen to serve, protect, heal, and teach those suffering from emotional and physical pain. Compassion fatigue resulting from burnout and secondary traumatic stress have negative effects on the clinician's personal and professional life. The purpose of this training is to understand the historical development in the field of caregiving that lead to the concept of compassion fatigue, understand the unique challenges of working with mentally ill patients, identify the negative impact of compassion fatigue on psychological and physical well-being of behavioral health workers, understand compassion fatigue assessment instruments, articulate the neurobiological underpinnings of compassion fatigue (Burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress), understand key factors contributing to resilience as well as barriers that prevent professionals from developing resiliency skills and understand and learn the role of different strategies in the amelioration of effects of compassion fatigue and develop professional resiliency.

Continuing Education: Pre-registration for CE's is requested via the RSVP form. All attendees seeking CE's must sign-in at the event and stay for the full duration. Attendees will receive a post-test and/or evaluation at the conclusion of the training. CE certificates will be emailed to attendees who have passed the post-test within 14 business days.
