Please join us for an in-person Science Under the Dome lecture at the WSU Planetarium.  Doctoral Candidate Ethan Partington will present Demystifying Black Holes

The origin, cosmic evolution, and astrophysical impact of black holes will be discussed. This will include the highlights of two recent Nobel Prize-winning discoveries in the field. This lecture will include directions to find the most famous black holes in our night sky, visualizations of gravitational waves, and simulations of the strange predictions of Einstein's relativity as you approach the event horizon.

Science Under the Dome is a free public science lecture series sponsored by the Department of Physics & Astronomy.  

Ethan Partington is a doctoral candidate in astrophysics at Wayne State University. They use space-based observatories to map the extreme environments of supermassive black holes in distant galaxies. Ethan leads multiple black hole monitoring campaigns with NICER, a state-of-the-art X-ray observatory located aboard the International Space Station. They were also an invited speaker at NASA’s 2022 Summer Science Workshop for NICER. Ethan is passionate about making the latest astronomical discoveries accessible to everyone and gives free tours of the night sky at the Wayne State Planetarium.
