The Wayne State University School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education invites faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members to join WSU Social Work Professor Amy Watson, PhD & WSU SSW Center for Behavioral Health and Justice Crisis Response Manager Leonard Swanson, MSW for this training titled "Introduction to Behavioral Health Crisis Services: Best practices in a transforming crisis care system". 

In this course, the presenters will introduce behavioral health crisis services. They will describe the components of the behavioral health crisis system and efforts at the federal and state level to transform crisis services. Best practice guidelines for crisis services developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will be discussed along with examples of how states are incorporating these guidelines into their crisis care services. Dr. Watson will discuss her work examining models of crisis response nationally, and Mr. Swanson will describe the work he and the Center for Behavioral Health and Justice are doing examining crisis response services in Michigan.

  • Describe the components of a behavioral health crisis system.
  • Discuss best practices in crisis services.
  • Understand the differences between models of crisis response in community.
  • Describe crisis services available in the State of Michigan.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Attendees can obtain 2 social work CECH upon completion of the training, payment receipt and passing of the post-training quiz. All attendees seeking CE's must sign-in at the event vai the link posted in the chat and stay for the full duration. Attendees will receive the payment, and post-test/evaluation links at the conclusion of the training. A CECH certificate will be emailed within 7 - 10 business days after the event. This event has been approved by the MI Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative under CE Approval #: MICEC-0058.
