Sciences & Humanities Under the Dome Lecture: Conservation Science at the Detroit Institute of Arts
This event is in the past.
6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Sciences & Humanities Under the Dome is a free, in person public lecture series focused on current research in the Liberal Arts & Sicences.
Dr. Christina Bisulca will be our December speaker. Dr. Bisulca is the Conservation Scientist at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and will discuss current research activities performed in her lab, evaluating the chemistry and materials science of art collections.
From plastics to archaeological artifacts, conservation science encompasses the analysis and study of a wide range of materials. Dr. Bisulca, the DIA’s only conservation scientist, will give an introduction to art conservation and conservation science and how scientific analysis is used in museums. This will include current and ongoing research on collections at the Detroit Institute of Arts including contemporary sculpture and a Roman Egyptian mummy portrait. Come learn about her research, including how WSU collections have been of use in some of this analysis.
Doors open at 5:30pm.
The WSU Planetarium is located on the lower level of Old Main.
The Science & Humanities Under the Dome lecture series is supported by the Rita & Stanley Levy and Ratna & Vaman Naik Endowment. Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.
