This presentation for early career researchers, Ph.D. students, and their mentors will cover how to effectively pitch a revised dissertation project for scholarly publishers. We will discuss what scholarly presses mean when they say that they don't publish dissertations and how to ensure that your submission materials address the major concerns publishers have when considering revised dissertations. We will also address the common advice to “write your dissertation as a book” and when you should start approaching publishers about your project.

This event will be led by Laura Portwood-Stacer, a publishing consultant and developmental editor who helps academic authors at all career stages navigate the book publishing process. Her company Manuscript Works runs workshops and online programs to assist writers around the world in drafting book proposals and connecting with scholarly publishers. Laura is the author of The Book Proposal Book: A Guide for Scholarly Authors, which offers a step-by-step guide to crafting a compelling scholarly book proposal. She runs a variety of institutional workshops on topics ranging from how to successfully publish a book based on your dissertation, to how to work with a developmental editor. Further details are available here.

Please RSVP for a link to the event.

This event is being sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
