The Wayne State University School of Medicine’s End Race-Based Medicine Taskforce on Feb. 28 will present “It’s Racism Not Race: Moving From Race Science and Race-Based Medicine to Racism Conscious Medicine in Practice, Education and Policy.”

The panel discussion, part of the taskforce’s townhall roundtable series, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Panelists include David Underwood of the Detroit Community Care Network; Kim Rhoads, M.D., M.P.H., of University of California – San Francisco Umoja Health; Ebony Madden, Ph.D., Health Equity and Workforce Diversity Program director; Camille Clare, M.D., M.P.H., professor and chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University; and State Rep. and Majority Floor Leader Abraham Aiyash.

The panel will be moderated by Hayley Thompson, Ph.D., professor of Oncology and associate director of the Office of Cancer Health Equity and Community Engagement at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

The keynote speakers are Joseph Graves, Ph.D., geneticist and evolutionary biologist at North Carolina A&T University, and author of “Racism Not Race: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions,” and Michelle Morse, M.D., M.P.H., chief medical officer of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and co-founder of the Equal Health and Social Medicine Consortium at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
