Professor Gladys Mitchell-Walthour examines the lives and struggles of poor Black women in Brazil and the United States.  She examines how these women navigate a system that oppresses them and provides benefits.  It is a complicated reality.  In her new book, Professor Mitchell-Walthour highlights the creativity and community networks that have been keys to this reality for Black women.
