Wayne State University School of Social Work office of Continuing Education, in collaboration with the WSU Detroit Tri-County Social Work Health Careers Opportunity Program is thrilled to announce a Continuing Education (CE) training workshop titled "Quality Social Work Practice in Healthcare: Bridging Patient Care with Equitable Practice,". This CE training workshop promises to equip participants with valuable knowledge and skills essential for delivering high-quality social work services in healthcare settings. Shawnteal Pernell and Erik Hutchison with their extensive expertise and experience, will guide attendees through interactive sessions, offering practical insights and best practices.

During this workshop, attendees will gain insights into the following key areas:

  • Strategies for promoting patient-centered care
  • Addressing social determinants of health
  • Culturally competent practice in healthcare settings
  • Ethical considerations in Social Work practice
  • Collaborative approaches to interdisciplinary healthcare teams

Shawnteal Pernell, LMSW is a highly respected Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with a wealth of experience in healthcare settings. She brings a unique blend of expertise in patient-centered care, cultural competence, and ethical practice to her role. Throughout her career, Pernell has been dedicated to advancing quality social work practice and improving patient outcomes.

Erik Hutchison LMSW & LCSW, BSW, MSW, M.Div., STM is the Director of the Care Management Corewell Health Dearborn and Co-Chair of the Behavioral Health Clinical Care Program for Corewell Health East. Prior to Beaumont, Hutchison worked at Henry Ford inpatient psychiatry and is currently a faculty member for the General Medical Education Program for medical students and psychiatry residents for Beaumont. Hutchison is a Case Conference facilitator and CBT Instructor. Hutchison keeps a small private practice where he specializes in the adult gay male population.

COST: Free for students to attend; $15 for 1.5 CE's - Attendees will recieve an email with the payment link after the event.

CONTINUING EDUCATION1.5 Social Work CE's are available for a cost of $15. Pre-registration for CE's is requested via the RSVP form. All attendees seeking CE's must sign-in at the event via the link in the chat and stay for the full duration. Attendees will receive a post-test and/or evaluation by the next business day follownig the event. CE certificates will be emailed to attendees who have passed the post-test within 14 business days.
